2013: Women's Co-operatives
Jewelry
Bead Necklaces and Bracelets
The women's co-operatives in Bukunda and Kitiiti were set up to empower the local women to improve their financial status by making and selling crafts, and to learn basic agricultural skills and animal husbandry. The women are mostly very poor. We gave out small food and clothes parcels, and gave classes on basic hygiene. We taught knitting, initially how to make small squares that can be stitched together to make the woolly blankets they love. Knitted blankets might also be an additional source of revenue for their craft sales.
In Kitiiti we also had a session for the children. They loved the colouring and sticking exercises, and in the circumstances were very good at them.
