UgaIrish Visit October 2013
Masaka Road
Masaka Road
Masaka is a town of about 75,000 inhabitants, 140 kilometres Southwest of Kampala, the capital. A tarred road runs South from Masaka to the border with Tanzania roughly following the shore of Lake Victoria and about 25km from it. 20km down this road is the trading centre - we would call it a village - of Bukunda, where we stayed in a rented house just outside the village. The side roads off the Masaka tarred road are dirt, dusty in the dry and muddy in the wet. Although much is available in the small shops, it is generally at prices well above those of Masaka.
The road east from Bukunda towards Lake Victoria passes Kamuzinda Children's village, the small Kyannamukaaka village and the Kitiiti village, which is only a couple of shops, houses and a church.

We were just five volunteers this year, but we covered quite a few activities. They are mostly described on the separate pages linked in the left sidebar, and their locations are marked on the interactive map. In addition, after we left Bukunda, we visited in Kampala the several special needs children that are being sponsored in schools there.
